Amazon launches a healthcare AI assistant across its website and app

Amazon said on Tuesday that it will expand access to its healthcare AI assistant for customers using its website and app, aiming to help streamline care for more than 30 health conditions.

The artificial intelligence tool can explain medical results, connect patients with healthcare providers, and answer questions about medications and symptoms, the company said in a statement. The model, first announced in January, was previously available only to members of One Medical, the company’s clinical services platform.

Customers do not need to subscribe to Amazon’s premium prescription service, Prime, or be members of One Medical to access the free assistant.

“Health AI is designed to handle the logistical and informational work that creates friction in healthcare, so patients and providers can spend more time on what matters most,” said Andrew Diamond, chief medical officer at Amazon One Medical.

For non-emergency conditions ranging from acne and head lice to diabetes and sleep apnea, the assistant can help users manage symptoms, carry out virtual health assessments, and offer basic treatment guidance.

A spokesperson for Amazon said the assistant does not create full treatment plans. When patients need medical treatment or have more complex conditions, they are directed to a healthcare provider. Appointments with a provider cost $29 for patients who are not members of One Medical or those not using an introductory offer through Prime.
